Project Witches Protection

An Essay by Donald Cabot D'Agostino:

s a Witch living in Salem, it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that not all Witches in America enjoy the same freedom and liberty as those in this beautiful, majickal city. As an active member of Project, Witches' Protection, this fact is all too evident. Most of the time, P.W.P. hears from Witches all over this fair nation whose civil rights are being disregarded. Sometimes, though, you are shown the same truths though the opposite polarity, as I was yesterday.
Two young Witches from out-of-town visited Laurie's shop. Throughout my daily errands around town, I noticed them several times walking through town wearing robes and capes. To see Witches living publicly is a beautiful sight to behold anytime, but especially refreshing in February, with no major events happening. As I thought about this, I realized that lots of people come here to enjoy the freedom and liberty  that Witches have in Salem; the freedom to walk down the street in robes without fear of ridicule or harassment. Perhaps some people don't feel as comfortable in their own towns and cities, and why is that? Are not all Americans guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness? It is my greatest hope that all Witches who visit Salem leave empowered with the strength and courage to live openly as Witches in their own communities.
Freedom, Liberty - the things our American forefathers and Mothers fought and died for are not just philosophical ideals on paper, but principles that must be acted upon and used daily or else we all run he risk of losing them. The more that we, as Witches, live openly and actively in our communities in a positive manner, the easier it will be to rid our society of the misconceptions about the religion of Witchcraft.
Remember, Salem wasn't always so welcoming, even in the twentieth century. As a result of the commitment and courage of the first Witches to live openly in Salem, Witches from all over come here and enjoy the liberty of walking in public openly as a Witch.
So, project with me now, dear readers, project for a society in which all Witches can live their lives openly everywhere, as if they were visiting Salem - without fear.

 Project for Freedom

Project for Liberty.
