Project Witches Protection
When you come upon an issue that you feel strongly about, there are two simple ways to address that complaint – Write or Telephone.
DO NOT E-MAIL YOUR COMPLAINT. Writing is the best way – writing and calling on the same issue is stronger.
When you write:
Be brief and to the point.
State first, what the issue is, and why you are opposed to it. Keep it all on one page.
Be serious, not joking or sarcastic. Do not use foul or slant language. Stay on point, realistic and be fair.
End your letter by asking the Official what they are going to do about it or what their position is.
In the lower left of your letter, place CC to the A.C.L.U. and P.W.P. This way they will understand someone else knows they received your letter.
Individual letters have more impact. Hand-written letters take more time to read.
Here is an example of a complaint letter.
You would need to tailor it to your own particular
issue but it gives an idea of one effective format.
you can download this letter in
PDF format or
Microsoft Word format.
Here is the text of the sample letter:
Dear Sir/Madam:
This is an official response and complaint to the scheduled production by Warner Bros. Studios of the John Updike Novel, “THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK.”
As a supporter of Project Witches Protection (PWP), (an international anti-defamation organization which is working to protect the civil rights, dignity, and public portrayal of the over six (6) million Witches and Pagans in the United States), I find the context in which the so-called “modern Witches” are portrayed in this story as being inaccurate, offensive, and a violation of the Constitutionally guaranteed civil right to practice religious freedom, as well as freedom from harassment, discrimination, persecution, or the incitement of the public to form adverse opinions of members of a religious community.
In the Federal Court Decision of EFSTHATHIOU vs. RHODES, (Case c44.159, April 1977, Judge Winston Arnow presiding), the Federal Government of the United States of America ruled that “Wicca” or “Witchcraft” is a “legitimate religion” and qualifies for protection under the law afforded other religious groups in this country.
The inaccurate and negative portrayal of “Witches” as ruthless, blood-thirsty Satan worshippers, who participate in “black masses” and resort to murder and violence to achieve their desires, is an infringement of our religious right, and is harmful, slanderous, and malicious.
Witches do not now, nor ever in the history of the world, worship or recognize the existence of “Satan” or “devils.” Such personifications are not part of our religious structure. We are a group of people who live by the principle “An Harm Ye None, Do as Thou Wilt.”
We do not harm humans or animals, nor provoke or initiate violence, revenge, or harm of any sort, nor advocate such actions in others. We do not use “psychic abilities” to do harm.
Most of all, we are everyday people, and not a frivolous “fringe group” to be made light of and ignored. We surround you in every profession just as any other religious community would. We are doctors, herbologists, bank presidents, astrologers, physicists, philosophers, and film producers! Our numbers are large, and we are uniting in the United States and abroad to fight the incorrect and negative depiction of Witches everywhere
We urge that this film not be produced in its current form, and appropriate changes or disclaimers be made, noting that the portrayal of “Witches” in the film does not reflect the peaceful beliefs of Witchcraft and/or Wicca.
Respectfully yours,
